The Thoracic Assembly
Three days of Olena Nitefor in Boston area>
The Thoracic Assembly: Its role and relation to the power and agility of the pelvis and the carriage of the head, biomechanics, and anatomy. While the hip joints and the organization of the knees, ankles, and feet are necessary components for standing up, they themselves are not sufficient. The thoracic spine plays a highly significant role in placing the mass of the head over the pelvis. If the chest is “stiff,” one has to bring the head far forward in order to lift the pelvis from its sitting surface.
But, when the thoracic spine is sufficiently differentiated, it contributes to keeping the mass of the head axis close in any activity. In coming to stand, the head can go upward and forward only as much as is needed to bring it directly over the legs.
